Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Steven Yeun joins Pagans TV series

Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Invincible) has jumped onboard the upcoming Netflix series Pagans in the lead role. This one comes from Joshua Zetumer (Robocop, Say Nothing), and following is the logline for the show:

Pagans follows a man who becomes the sole caretaker of his two children after the tragic loss of his wife. While his son is typical, his daughter, Alice, is anything but. What starts as a strained father-daughter relationship soon evolves into something far more sinister.

No further casting has been announced for the series at this point, but I expect they will be getting more actors onboard soon. Production has been underway on this one since 2025, so it could premiere as early as 2027 if filming starts soon.

Felicia Day’s movie Kickstarter for The Guild: Ren Faire’d, which is based on her web series, has broken the record previously set by Veronica Mars, passing $5,704,000 from a total of 37,455 backers (the Veronica Mars movie topped out at $5,702,153 in 2013). That has the film well beyond its original goal, and work should begin on it soon. The Legend of Vox Machina has the record for a TV series funded campaign, pulling in $11.39 million to fund its first season. You can read more about The Guild at Cult-SciFi.com.

In renewal news, It: Welcome to Derry has received an official second season renewal from HBO. Work had begun on that back in 2025, and the showrunners have three seasons in total planned for the series. You can read more about the renewal at CancelledSciFi.com.

In casting news, Apple TV’s Murderbot has added a pretty hefty number of names to its season 2 cast including Blair Underwood, Patton Oswalt, Steve Buscemi, Topher Grace, and Wanda Sykes. Production has begun on that, and it is likely looking at a 2027 premiere.

Netflix released trailers this past week and announced release dates for several of its upcoming anime entries including Bass X Machina (November 3rd), Fool Night (November 26th), and Season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (October 20th). Another animated entry that is on the way is Golden Axe which will be streaming on Paramount+ starting September 16th. You can see the trailer for the first of these below, and click on the links to see the trailers for the others.
