Sci Fi TV News: Weekly post covering the latest news and updates for sci fi and fantasy television.
The adaptation of The Talisman, based on the book by Stephen King and Peter Straub, that the Duffer Brothers were attached to is no longer moving forward at Netflix. Announced back in 2022, and considered to be one of the next big projects for the duo after Stranger Things wrapped up, Ross Duffer has revealed “sadly, Talisman is no longer at Netflix, so we’re not involved”. The story follows a young man named Jack Sawyer looking for an artifact known as the Talisman in a parallel universe call The Territories so that he can used it to save us dying mother, and it is linked to King’s Dark Tower universe. Steven Spielberg was working on a big screen adaptation of the book at one point, but it is unclear if that is moving forward and who currently holds the rights to the property.
According to the Tachyon Pulse Podcast, a Babylon 5 reboot may be moving forward again, and J. Michael Straczynski may not be involved. According to an inside source that talked to the podcast, B5 might be moving to Netflix as part of that streamer’s buyout of Warner Bros. Discovery, and that may lead to development of a new incarnation. This would be a ground up reboot that would not be linked to the one that JMS was working on with The CW a few years back. This is a developing story based on unconfirmed rumors, so stay tuned to see how it develops. You can watch the B5 episode of the podcast at this link.
Paramount+ will be the new home for all of the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender content which will include the upcoming series Avatar: Seven Havens and the feature film The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. Seven Havens will take place after the events of The Legend of Korra and is on track for a 2027 premiere. The Hollywood Reporter gives the following description for the show:
Seven Havens, set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm, follows a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.
The animated feature film will follow the main cast from the animated series in their young adult years, and it is set for an October 2026 premiere. You can read more on that one at this link. The original series is currently streaming on Netflix as well as Paramount+.
Natasha Lyonne wants more from Russian Doll–which she co-created–and she is currently working on scripts for a third season. Netflix chose not to continue that time-bending series beyond its second year even though it drew critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nominations. She says that she is “determined to do it [David] Lynch-style – Fire Walk With Me and then Twin Peaks: The Return. I’m determined to follow that model”. Lyonne is working on other projects at the moment, but does plan to pitch the third season to Netflix at some point.
