Sci Fi Box Office: Weekly post tracking the performance of sci fi and fantasy movies in the theaters and on streaming.
Box Office Results
The horror entry Undertone took the Number 3 slot at the Box Office this past weekend with $9.3 million in domestic receipts, a decent tally for a limited release. That one was made on a budget of half a million dollars, so it already counts as a success. Another limited release horror film, Slanted, made it to the Number 14 slot for its premiere, pulling in $625K in just under 600 theaters. That one will likely have to look to streaming and home video to turn a profit. Scream 7 slipped to Number 4 in the charts, but at almost $180 million in global receipts vs. a budget of $45 million, it is well into the black after three weeks. The Bride! slipped to Number 6 in its second week, and at $20.8 million in global receipts thus far, it has a ways to go to turn a profit. Anaconda made a surprise appearance in the Top 20 as apparently its presence in cinemas was increased just before the end of its theatrical run to boost its revenue. Despite a tepid reception from critics, that one has at least broken even with a global tally of $135 million vs. a $45 million budget. Below are all of the genre films from the Top 20 based on the weekend results.

That movie was well received by fans and critics, but broke even at best in its theatrical run. This has it off to a good start on streaming, though. A sequel for that one is currently in the early production phase. Following are all the genre films from the Nielsen Streaming Rankings and the Netflix Top 10.
