Sci Fi Movie News of Note

The second film in the planned 28 Years Later trilogy, The Bone Temple, had a disappointing run in theaters, pulling in only $57.6 million in global receipts against a budget of $63 million. That one ended its theatrical run early and is now available On Demand where Sony hopes that it will perform well enough to recoup at least some of its costs. And while a third film was given the greenlight late in 2025, that is now in doubt. Work had begun on that, and it did appear in the Production Weekly listings, but there is a chance that it may not go forward due to the poor performance of The Bone Temple. However, if the latter film does well in home video and streaming, that third entry may still happen.

Showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings is Horrorstör which is a horror-comedy in the works from Searchlight Pictures based on the book of the same name by Grady Hendrix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story takes place in an Ikea-like furniture superstore named Orsk in Cleveland that becomes subjected to supernatural occurrences. To uncover the mystery, a group of employees sign up for a night shift, only to get way more than they bargained for, in a most sinister way. Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) is attached as director, and there have been no casting announcements made yet.

Also moving into production is DemonCode which will be written and directed by Corey Trahan (Damsel of the Doomed). The Clive Barker-esque thriller follows a physicist and his student who create a quantum computer to answer existential questions, but find that the technology leads to a horrific, simulated-reality nightmare. This is currently planned as the beginning of a new franchise.
