Sci Fi TV News: Weekly post covering the latest news and updates for sci fi and fantasy television.
It appears that a spin-off/sequel to Manifest is in the works at Netflix. The December 18th listings for Production Weekly have an entry for Manifest: Arrivals that is showing up for the first time. I can’t say for certain at this point that it is related to the series the streamer saved from cancellation and turned into a huge hit, but that title surely suggests a link, and there have been talks about a sequel series all the way back to the time that the fourth season wrapped up. Series star Josh Dallas claims that a deleted scene was filmed that teased a continuation, but that was not included in the streaming release (more on that at this link). And then in August of 2024, series creator Jeff Rake posted the following on social media:
MANIFEST UPDATE
Hey Manifesters! I know. It’s been a long time.
No green light yet, but fyi my partners and I are working nonstop to bring you the spinoff you deserve. Keep the faith.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 828!!!
And as recently as June 2025, Rake posted “Not dead yet” on his Twitter account. Now, with this new entry showing up in Production Weekly, the spin-off may be moving into production. I have not been able to find any details about it, and none of the major entertainment media sources have confirmed this, nor has Netflix made a statement yet. But I expect that an official announcement will be coming out shortly.
In additional production news, work is beginning on the Monsterverse prequel series that will star Wyatt Russel as Colonel Lee Shaw which should have it on track for a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere.
A pilot for Seven Sisters which stars Elizabeth Olsen (Wandavision) has been picked up by FX. Deadline gives the following description:
Seven Sisters follows a large, tight-knit family that begins to unravel when one sister, Adrienne (Olsen), starts communicating with a voice no one else can hear, forcing them to confront long-buried secrets.
Cristin Milioti and J. Smith-Cameron will also star in the production, and the cable network will be considering this for their 2026 schedule.
Gil Gerrard passed away this past week at the age of 82. He was best known to genre fans in the role as the titular hero in the 1979 TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
In casting news, Amazon’s upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series adds one more to its cast as Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery) will be joining Sophie Turner, though his role is unspecified at this time.
