Sci Fi TV News: Weekly digest of the recent news and updates relating to sci fi and fantasy television.
Another Game of Thrones series is in the works, though it is only in the early development stage at this point. HBO had at one point considered a spin-off that would focus on Jon Snow after he was exiled to the North, but that has been pushed aside for now. Instead, the premium cable channel is working on a show that would focus on Arya Stark and would take place after the events of the GoT finale. Quoc Dang Tran (Parallels) has been attached as writer at this point, but no other cast and crew–including Maisie Williams–have been brought on to the project yet.
And speaking of that franchise, the new entry A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres tonight and currently has enough material to go for three seasons based on the published Dunk & Egg stories. But George R.R. Martin has an additional twelve unpublished stories and story ideas that could carry the show further. He will likely get around to publishing those just as soon as he is finished the the Song of Ice and Fire books…
Reactions may have been mixed to Apple TV’s Pluribus, but Rhea Seehorn walked away from the Golden Globe with the best actress award for her lead role as Carol Sturka. The show also received a nomination for Best Television Drama, but that award went instead to the medical series The Pitt.
Netflix announced last week that Black Mirror will be returning for an eighth season, and that showed up in the Production Weekly listings from January 15th. That should have it on track to premiere late 2026 or early 2027.
