Sci Fi TV News: Weekly digest of the recent news and updates relating to sci fi and fantasy television.
The reboot of The X-Files currently in the works from Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) is moving forward at Hulu as that streamer has given a pilot order for the series. Following is the logline for the show:
Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Danielle Deadwyler (Station 11) has been cast as the female lead, and they are currently looking for her co-star. There are also talks of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson making an appearance as well as other cast members from the original series. Hulu will likely be looking to add this to its 2027 slate of originals.
Also in the works at Hulu is The Last Second Chance which is based on the Japanese fantasy comedy Rebooting. Following is the description of the project provided by Deadline:
The series is about a woman who is literally given a second chance at life – this time around she must change her ways and prevent her own murder, which raises bigger questions about whether change is possible or if everything is predetermined.
Corey Nickerson (Black-ish) will be writing and Nahnatchka Khan (Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23) will be onboard as director and this will likely be targeting a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere.
Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk joined Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner on the Dropping Names podcast to swap stories about their respective space shows. You can watch that at this link.
The BBC version of Ghosts will be heading to the big screen with Ghosts: The Possession of Button House. The main writers and cast will be returning and following is their statement on the film:
We thought we had said goodbye to Button House at the end of the final series. We never planned to come back. But when we had the idea for this story, we all got so excited that we couldn’t resist returning to our haunted home for one more adventure. We can’t wait to be together and to welcome some brilliant new faces, to tell this soul-stirring tale of life and death.
Filming will begin soon, and this will likely be targeting a 2027 theatrical premiere.
R.I.P. to Rob Grant, co-creator of Red Dwarf who died suddenly this week at age 70 on Wednesday, February 25th. His last work was the prequel novel Red Dwarf: Titan, a collaboration with Andrew Marshall, which is set to come out later this year.
