2026 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings, and all three films in the franchise will be getting a limted theatrical re-release in honor of that. These will be the extended editions of the movies, and they will screen in DBOX presentation from January 16th to 19th and then in standard formats from January 23rd to 25th. And, of course, this presents a perfect opportunity to throw in some merchandising with Lord of the Rings-themed concessions at AMC and Regal theaters.
The Fellowship of the Ring extended edition (3 hours 48 minutes) will be in theaters January 16th to 19th with DBOX showings available. Then from January 23rd to 25th, both The Two Towers and The Return of the King will be released together in standard format and those total over eight hours (plan your bathroom breaks accordingly). They will be available at AMC and Regal theaters on a limited number of screens.
All three movies cover J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and have received acclaim as some of the best fantasy films of all time. The Return of the King took in eleven academy awards, tying an all-time best with Ben-Hur (1959) and Titanic (1997). This offers an opportunity to see these on the big screen one more time, and it is certainly a great way to revisit the films or experience them for the first time.
