Summer 2026 Blockbuster Season Scorecard: Animal Farm

As the pigs consolidate control, truth is erased, dissent is crushed, and the farm descends into a ruthless dictatorship—fulfilling Orwell’s warning about the dangers of communism.

Score: 26% Tomatometer (Based on Critics’ Reviews) | 57% Popcornmeter (Based on Audience Scores)

Critics Consensus: All Animal Farm adaptations are equal, but some Animal Farm adaptations are more watchable than others.

Was It a Success? This Disney-fied version of George Orwell’s political fairy tale landed with a thud as the first genre entry of the Summer 2026 Blockbuster Season. Despite the steady hand of Andy Serkis (Venom: Let There Be Carnage) at the helm as director and the all-star cast, it went cute and at times juvenile with its approach, and did not attract audiences into the theaters. Taking in only $3.3 million in domestic tickets vs. a budget of $35 million, it will almost certainly fall quite short of turning a profit in its theatrical run unless it scores well overseas (where it has not been released yet).

Should You See It in Theaters? Based on early reactions, probably not, and it will likely be disappearing from the cinemas pretty quickly, anyway. Considering all the other genre entries headed to the Box Office over the Summer (see our preview at this link), it’s probably best to save your $15+ ticket price on this one and catch it on streaming, possibly as soon as June.
