Summer 2026 Blockbuster Season Scorecard: Disclosure Day

Disclosure Day: If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.

Directed by: Steven Spielberg

Starring: Isabelle Fuhrman, Josh Hutcherson, Dennis Quaid, David Thewlis, Raoul Bhaneja

Budget: $115 Million

Opening Weekend: $44,530,925 (North America)

Rotten Tomatoes:

Score: 81% Tomatometer (Based on Critics’ Reviews) | 72% Popcornmeter (Based on Audience Scores)

Critics’ Consensus: A humanistic variation on one of Steven Spielberg’s most revisited themes, Disclosure Day’s breathless pursuit of optimism in an age of conspiracy gets its biggest boost from career-highlight work by Emily Blunt.

Audience Says: Disclosure Day may wander narratively, but its deep exploration of human connection resonates with remarkable reach, reaffirming Spielberg as one of the most rewarding filmmakers of our time.

Was It a Success? Steven Spielberg is an iconic genre director having delivered seminal Blockbuster successes such as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark (with an assist from George Lucas), Jurassic Park, and more. Disclosure Day continues to see him working in the sci fi realm, but it looks like it will come up short financially compared to much of his previous work. The film did top the Box Office in its first weekend of release, but with only $44.5 million in domestic ticket sales and another $49.5 million in foreign theaters, this one has an uphill battle to turn a profit in its theatrical run. It may come close to breaking even if it continues to perform well overseas, but it will definitely not match the runaway successes of many of his older films.

Should You See It in Theaters? While Disclosure Day may not be pulling in blockbuster numbers in ticket sales, the fact is that Spielberg is a master of the craft and has proven that he knows how to make a good movie more often than not (War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull not withstanding). And even though this one has not received rave reviews from critics and viewers, it might be worth shelling out the money to see it on the big screen rather than wait for streaming.
