Sci Fi Box Office: Evil Dead Burn Has a Decent Start, Supergirl Continues to Fly Low, and More

Sci Fi Box Office: Weekly post tracking the performance of sci fi and fantasy movies in the theaters and on streaming.

Box Office Results

The latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Burn, premiered at the Number 4 slot at the Box Office, falling behind family films Moana (No. 1), Minions & Monsters (No. 2), and Toy Story 5 (No. 3). But seeing as the horror entry is not a high-dollar production, it its still off to a decent start. It pulled in $13.7 million in ticket sales across North America, and it is currently at $26 million worldwide vs. a $20 million budget, so it is on track to at least break even if not turn a profit during its theatrical run.

Supergirl slipped to Number 7 in its third week with a global tally of $116 million so far vs. a budget of $180 million, and that Box Office disappointment will likely be flying off to streaming soon. Disclosure Day slipped to Number 8 in its fifth week, reaching nearly $230 million vs. a budget of $115 million in worldwide ticket sales as it struggles to hit the breakeven point in its theatrical run. Masters of the Universe dropped to Number 15 in its sixth week, and it could be leaving theaters soon as it is assured to count as a flop with a global tally of $113 million vs. a budget of $170 million. Below are all of the genre films from the Top 20 based on the weekend results.

Streaming Results

There is not much to report on genre films in the latest streaming numbers as there was only one entry across the Nielsen Streaming Rankings and the Netflix Top 10. That was old reliable KPop Demon Hunters which was at the Number 10 slot in the Netflix chart, extending its run to 56 weeks. But I expect that we will be seeing more sci fi and fantasy entries in these charts in the coming weeks.
