Was It a Success? The first part of this Summer looked pretty grim for blockbuster films, with none of the releases through June counting as hits and several outright flopping at the Box Office. The Odyssey turned that around a few of weeks ago with a big opening weekend, and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day has netted the largest premiere in Box Office history, surpassing Avengers: Endgame. In addition, it made it to one billion globally in only six days, counting it pretty quickly as a hit against a hefty budget of $250 million (a film needs to make at least double its budget based on domestic ticket sales or two-and-half to three times worldwide to reach the break-even point). So people do still want to see blockbusters and they do still want to see superheroes, and Hollywood will continue to pump those out despite the pretty high miss-rate we have been seeing lately.
Should You See It in Theaters? The MCU movies usually go high on spectacle, so catching this one on the big screen is probably the best way to experience it. Critics and audiences have been favorable in their response to the film, and the previous Spider-Man entries starring Tom Holland have also been enjoyable, so this one should be worth the hefty ticket prices we are paying these days.
