This movie is based on the sixth Narnia book written by C.S. Lewis which is a prequel for the other books that establishes the universe. Director Greta Gerwig talked in an interview with Stephen Colbert about how she approached the film, saying that she focused on specific, vivid imagery from the text, such as the surreal moment when Aslan sings the world into existence, contrasting it with the intimate, quiet moments of childhood. She also tried to align with C. S. Lewis’s perspective by traveling to key locations from the author’s life like Oxford, Cambridge, and Belfast. In addition, she read extensively—both the works Lewis wrote and the books that inspired him—to better understand his interior life. You can listen to the entire interview at this link.
