Premiering This Week:
Hitting the theaters this week in limited release is the zombie film We Bury the Dead starring Daisy Ridley and Brenton Thwaites. Also of interest, the horror film The Home will premiere on Starz January 1st. You can see all the premieres for January and beyond at our Sci Fi Movie Schedule page.
We Bury the Dead (In Theaters-Limited, Jan 2): After a catastrophic military disaster, the dead don’t just rise – they hunt. The military insists they are harmless and slow-moving, offering hope to grieving families. But when Ava (Daisy Ridley) enters a quarantine zone searching for her missing husband, she uncovers the horrifying truth: the undead are growing more violent, more relentless, and more dangerous with every passing hour.

Sci Fi Movie News

James Cameron has been eying a reboot of the classic 1960s sci fi film Fantastic Voyage for quite a while, and he now seems to be making some progress toward making that happen. In an interview with Deadline, he provided the following update:
I’ve been nurturing that for a while. I hope to get that going this coming year. I’ll be producing it. I’m working with a director right now with a new script. So, yeah, we’re gonna do it.
There is no word on who the director will be, but I expect an announcement in the coming months. The original film was directed by Richard Fleischer (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and follows a group of scientists shrunk down in a high-tech submarine to perform a critical procedure on an important official.
There are rumors that Marvel is once again in talks with Jordan Peele to direct Blade. He turned down the chance six years ago, but may get another shot at it if this is correct.
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to perform well at the theaters having pulled in $87 million from Christmas Day through the weekend domestically. It currently is at over $850 million globally and on track to pass a billion possibly as soon as the coming weekend.

Worldbreaker (In Theaters-Limited, January 30, 2026): Follows a young girl named Willa, whose parents, a battle-scarred veteran father and her monster-killing mother, protect their home on a remote island from creatures called Breakers. However, Willa is forced to join the fight when a young girl arrives to their home, bringing the war they left behind to their shores. It’s unclear where these monsters came from, but it seems like there is no part of Earth where you can escape them.
