Sci Fi Movie News

Netflix has announced its 2026 slate of originals which includes the sci fi film War Machine starring Alan Ritchson (Jack Reacher). Following is the logline for that one:

During the final stage of US Army Ranger selection, an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat.

That one is scheduled to premiere March 6, 2026 and below are several more original films of interest to sci fi and fantasy fans heading to Netflix this year (the release dates for those have not been set yet):

11817– A sci-fi thriller about a family trapped in their home.

In a Holidaze– A time-loop holiday film.

Narnia– Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the C.S. Lewis classic. Releases Dec 2026

Ray Gunn– Animated film from Brad Bird.

Swapped– An animated body-swap comedy voiced by Michael B. Jordan.

Warner Bros. Discovery has rejected the revised buyout offer from Paramount and will stick with the offer presented by Netflix at this point. If the deal with that streamer does move forward, it will be interesting to see how that plays out seeing as they want a theatrical release window of only 17 days, and WBD has some pretty big films in the works including the DCU entries Supergirl, Clayface, and Man of Tomorrow.

Box Office Results

When does Avatar: Fire and Ash premiere in cinemas?

Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to dominate at the Box Office, holding on to the Number 1 slot for a third week in a row. That one has gone past $300K in domestic receipts and has passed $1 billion worldwide, making it the third film in that franchise to achieve that goal. Anaconda remains at a disappointing Number 5 for a second week in a row, though it still has a chance of turning a profit based on global ticket sales. We Bury The Dead had a limited release this past weekend, and it has pulled in a decent $2,135 per theater, so it may get expanded to more theaters.

Sci Fi and Fantasy Films in the Domestic Top 20 (U.S. and Canada):
