Sci Fi Movies This Week: Weekly column tracking what is coming in the current week in the way of sci fi, fantasy, and horror releases as well as news on genre films.
Premiering This Week:
It is another slow week for sci fi and fantasy films with only one genre entry hitting theaters and one more premiering on streaming. Horror film The Bride has its bow in wide release starting on Friday, and Netflix’s sci fi thriller War Machine debuts on that service tomorrow as well. You can see more about those below, and you can watch trailers and get info for all the upcoming sci fi and fantasy films at this link.
The Bride (In Theaters, Mar 6): A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
Directed by: Maggie Gyllenhaal
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Penelope Cruz, Annette Bening, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Jeannie Berlin
War Machine (Netflix, Mar 6): During the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection, an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against a giant otherworldly killing machine.

Sci Fi Movie News of Note

Game of Thrones could be making the jump to the big screen, and Andor writer Beau Willimon will be penning a script. He has already submitted a draft for a film that would focus on Aegon I, who founded the Targaryen dynasty and conquered Westeros several centuries prior to the events of GoT. Whether this moves forward will hinge on what happens with the potential Warner Bros. Discover merger with Paramount, but the latter company’s CEO David Ellison is looking to release 30 films theatrically once the two studios have come together, and this movie brings plenty of name recognition. No director or actors have been attached at this point, and things will probably not get rolling until the final status of WBD is determined.
The M3GAN spin-off film Soulm8te is moving closer to a release as it has received a rating from MPA. That one was originally scheduled for an early January 2026 premiere, but it was pulled due to the disappointing Box Office performance of M3GAN 2.0 and shopped to other distributors. It has now received an R-rating–higher than the PG-13 of the two M3GAN films–which could indicate that it will be getting back on the schedule soon. You can see the trailer for that one at this link.
