Box Office Results
The indie film Iron Lung had a good premiere week in the theaters, debuting at Number 2 in wide release at the Box Office and pulling in $17.8 million in receipts domestically. Seeing as that was made on a budget of only $3 million, it already counts as a hit, and again proves to Hollywood that you don’t have to spend tons of money to draw people into the theaters. Slipping down to No. 5 was Avatar: Fire and Ash which added another $5.6 million to its tally. That one has now amassed over $1.4 billion globally and should be in the black, unless Hollywood accounting is in play. Last week’s No. 1 film Mercy slipped all the way down to No. 7 in its second week, and it is now at $41 million globally vs. a budget of $60 million. It will likely have to rely on streaming and home video to turn a profit. The second film in the 28 Years Later trilogy slipped to No. 10 in its third week of release, and that one will also need some non-Box Office revenue to get into the black. Streaming Results
For the last week of 2025, four genre films made it into the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for movies. KPop Demon Hunters continued its reign, coming in at No. 3 with an estimated 454 million minutes of viewing. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse performed well for Netflix at the No. 4 slot with 411 million minutes. And the second Avatar film got a boost from the new one that is in the theaters, landing at No. 8 with 249 million minutes. In the Netflix Top 10 for last week, KPop Demon Hunters extended its run on that chart to 33 weeks as it improved to No. 3 with 11.4 million hours watched across 6.8 million accounts. The sequel M3GAN 2.0 also entered into that chart at No. 6 with 8.9 million hours watched. Following are all the genre films from the Nielsen Streaming Rankings and the Netflix Top 10.
