Sci Fi Box Office: Spider-Man Brand New Day Continues to Top the Charts, Coyote vs. Acme Holds Strong, and More

Sci Fi Box Office: Weekly post tracking the performance of sci fi and fantasy movies in the theaters and on streaming.

Box Office Results

This Summer’s two powerhouse genre entries continued to perform well through the Labor Day weekend, holding on to the Number 1 and 2 slots at the Box Office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day topped the chart for a sixth week in a row, and that one has now passed A$2.4 billion in receipts worldwide. The Odyssey moved up one slot to Number 2, and that one is now at $1.6 million in global ticket sales. Coyote vs. Acme held strong against the stiff competition in its second week, increasing its presence in theaters and pulling in nearly $12 million across North America. That film barely made it to theaters and it now has nearly $50 million in global ticket sales along with some very good buzz, so it may yet prove a success.

Only one new genre entry hit the theaters this last weekend, the sci fi thriller Onslaught, and it premiered at Number 13 with a domestic tally of $1.9 million. That one was made on a budget of only $15 million, and it is likely looking to home video and streaming to try and turn a profit. The re-release of the anime classic Akira with a 4K restoration was at Number 11 at the Box Office with $2.7 million in domestic receipts. Below are all of the genre films from the Top 20 (and a few just outside) based on the weekend results.
