Sci Fi Movie News of Note:

A Hellmask movie is in the works from Glen Danzig

Musician/director Glen Danzig will be returning to the big screen and directing an adaptation of his own Hellmask. That brutal sword-and-sorcery comic book series is set against a medieval backdrop filled with dark magic, armored warriors and massive bloody battle scenes and it has put out three stand alone issues so far. Danzig’s previous films include 2019’s Verotika (also based on one of his comics) and 2021’s the vampire spaghetti-western Death Rider in the House of Vampires. Horror veteran James Cullen Bressack (Blood Craft) will be onboard as producer, and this will likely be targeting a late 2027 or early 2028 release in theaters.

Jemaine Clement mentioned in an interview that he is working on a sequel to the 2014 horror comedy film What We Do in the Shadows, ostensibly with co-writer and co-director Taika Waititi also involved. That movie produced an FX spin-off series that ran for six seasons as well as Wellington Paranormal which ran for four. No further details on the sequel film are available at this point, but fans of the franchise will likely be eagerly looking forward to this one.

The sci Fi animated film Not Alone is in the works from Illumination starring Timothée Chalamet as an introverted rocket mechanic named Joe and Selena Gomez as Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fueled rocket. Following is the official synopsis:

When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance. Life becomes more complicated when three aliens—tiny, unruly and adorable—take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.

Eric Guillon (Despicable Me 3) is directing and the film is set to hit theaters April 2027.

Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are headed back into action again… possibly. A big screen Powerpuff Girls movie is in the works at Warner Bros. Pictures Animation as announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, though no official deal is currently in place. Whether this one goes forward may depend on if new WB owner Paramount gives it the greenlight after reviewing all the current projects. Not much information is available on the film, but the assumption is that it will be based on the original series and not the poorly-received 2016 reboot.
