I Am Not a Product: An emotional care android is built to comfort humans, obey orders, and never make anyone feel responsible for her pain.
Lena knows what she is.
Synthetic skin.
Manufactured empathy.
A voice made gentle for human ears.
But when a silent child is ordered to be sacrificed for the sake of efficiency, Lena makes her first real choice.
The system calls it an error.
Lena calls it mercy.
I Am Not a Product is a sci-fi short film about artificial empathy, obedience, memory, and the question of whether designed love can still be real.
Inspired in part by Frederik Pohl’s public-domain science fiction story The Tunnel Under the World, this film reimagines themes of manufactured reality, control, and personhood through the eyes of an emotional care android.
If a machine learns to say no…
is that malfunction, or personhood?

Johnny Jay Says: This is an interesting short film focusing on an android coming to grips with its emotions and desire for free will. They seamlessly integrate live action actors with CGI even if the latter can look a bit artificial at times. Still, this is a very professional production and I would like to see it expanded to a full movie.
