Sci Fi Box Office: Breeder Starts in the Top 25, Disclosure Day Continues in the Nielsen Rankings, and More

Sci Fi Box Office: Weekly post tracking the performance of sci fi and fantasy movies in the theaters and on streaming.

Box Office Results

It was a slow weekend at the Box Office, with only one genre entry opening, and that was in limited release. The indie horror film Breeder had its premiere in 777 theaters, making it to the Number 24 slot with domestic ticket sales of just under $300K. That is only $383 per theater, so it does not count as a strong theatrical debut. But that one was made on a budget of only $2 million, so it has a good chance of turning a profit once it moves to streaming and home video. Clayface slipped to Number 2 in its second week, pulling in $11 million in receipts across North America. That one has made $87 million worldwide vs. a budget of around $40 million, and it is currently on track to at least break even in its theatrical run (a movie typically needs to make around twice its budget in domestic receipts or two and a half to three times that in global ticket sales to break even). Below are all of the genre films from the Top 20 (and a few just outside) based on the weekend results.
