Streaming Sci Fi: Monthly post tracking the sci fi, fantasy, and horror movies coming to the streaming services in the current month. Note that streaming availability can change with little to no notice.
This month has fewer sci fi and fantasy entries hitting the streaming services than October, and we may see the same next month as November and December tend to be more holiday-focused. New genre TV shows premiering this month are in bold and they are covered in more detail at this link, and following are the highlights from the rest of the streaming arrivals:
HBO Max
This streamer is going ape in November, adding all four of the newer Planet of the Apes movies (for some reason, the original five films are not streaming anywhere at the moment). HBO Max is also adding two Dune entries to go along with the recent films and series they have streaming: 1984’s Dune by David Lynch and the fascinating documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune.
Netflix
Summer’s horror hit Obsession will have its premiere on Netflix in November (it is also streaming on Peacock). And the first three Insidious films will be hitting that service during the month as well.
Peacock
2012’s CGI animated fantasy Rise of the Guardians flew under the radar upon its release, but that was actually a decent film and worth a look (and it makes for a good holiday entry, also coming to HBO Max this month). Another good holiday film is the 1946 classic It’s a Wonderful Life which should act as a salve to the current environment of toxic politics (that one is also coming to Paramount+ in November).
Tubi
The Marvel TV series Legion, which was tangential to the X-Men franchise, arrives on Tubi in November, and that one definitely offers a wild ride across its three seasons. Also of interest, the Alex Garland classic Ex Machina will have its premiere on that service this month.
