All of the Sci Fi and Fantasy Movies and TV Shows Coming to Streaming in January 2026

Monthly post tracking the sci fi, fantasy, and horror movies coming to the streaming services in the current month.  Note that streaming availability can change with little to no notice.

The beginning of 2026 brings quite a number of sci fi and fantasy movies and TV shows (more of the former than the latter) to the streaming services along with a few originals (highlighted in bold). You get see a more detailed look at the original TV shows at this link, and below are some highlights for the streaming releases along with the full list.

Highlights for January 2026:

Pitch Black (Arrives on Peacock January 1st): This 2000 film brings us an Alien-like story (on a budget) and also introduces to Riddick who would continue into two more films: The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013), which also arrive on Peacock on January 1st. It is a fun little film and was the highlight of the Riddick franchise, and certainly worth a look.

Event Horizon (Arrives on Paramount+ January 1st): Yet another sci fi horror film with some similarities to Alien, this one ventures into Lovecraftian territory and can be quite chilling at times. It did not get a great reception when it first came out, but it has since turned into somewhat of a cult classic, and a comic book sequel is current in the works.

The Abyss (Arrives on Disney+/Hulu January 1st): A lot of people are heading to the theaters to see James Cameron’s latest Avatar film, but this 1989 sci fi entry from the director is worth a look as well.  It delivers a special effects extravaganza that still holds up quite well today along with a pretty strong message.  And if you have never seen the extended version of this film, then you have never truly seen The Abyss.

The Blob (Arrives on Tubi January 1st): If you are looking for some fun, cheesy retro sci fi, this creature flick from 1958 is certainly worth a look.  It stars a young Steve McQueen, and it has its share of scares and creepiness.  It’s definitely not a big-budget affair, but it does a good job for a 1950s genre entry.
