Sci Fi Movie Premieres This Week:
The latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Burn, hits theaters this weekend (sorry, no Bruce Campbell in this one), though that one does not count among this Summer’s Blockbusters with a budget of only $20 million. But it should definitely be of interest to horror fans and those following this movie series. Premiering on Friday on VOD is the indie sci fi film The Outer Threat. Also available on VOD this week is Backrooms, Passenger, Black Box (Flight 298), and Warrios of the Wasteland. Premiering on streaming this weekend is the sci fi film Redux Redux which arrives on Hulu/Disney+ on Friday. Evil Dead Burn (In Theaters, July 10th): After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. Sci Fi Movie News of Note:
Work has begun on the previously announced G.I. Joe reboot at Paramount Pictures as an entry for that one is showing up in the latest listings from Production Weekly. Danny McBride (The Exorcist: Believer) will be helming the project and it will be a new start for the franchise focusing on Duke and a small team who attempt to infiltrate the Cobra-controlled town of Springfield. No casting announcements have been made for that one, but this will definitely be a high-profile film looking to revive the property in theaters.
Work has begun on CarnEvil Freakshow, the first segment of a anthology horror trilogy coming from director Jeremy Hawa and Producer Jeff Caperton. Following is the description of the film from the website:
The first story starts in the quiet town of Summersville. Within its shadows hide a dark history of unspeakable horrors. Three lives, each innocent and undeserving, are shattered by acts of cruelty and violence. What the perpetrators don’t realize is that their sins have summoned something far worse than justice – Hell itself.

The script for the long-awaited third entry in the Sherlock Holmes film franchise has been completed according to writer Chris Brancato, and Warner Bros. currently still has an interest in moving forward with that one. They are waiting for Robert Downey Jr.’s schedule to free up in order to proceed with the next installment, though it is possible that the recent Paramount merger could muck things up.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home will be returning to theaters for its 40th anniversary this Fall. The film will be getting a limited release in theaters starting on September 4th.
