The Mandalorian and Grogu: The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.

Critics Consensus: Bountiful in action but threadbare in narrative thrust with its episodic structure, this Star Wars is more of a skirmish that coasts on the charm of its central dynamic duo.
Audience Says: Drawing on the strength of the series and the undeniable chemistry of the coolest duo since Chewbacca and Solo, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu confidently reaffirms that “this is the way”.
Was It a Success? Much has been made by the fact that The Mandalorian and Grogu had the lowest opening weekend of any Star Wars film (in adjusted dollars), but it doesn’t mean that this one will count as a flop at the Box Office. Solo: A Star Wars Story previously gave the franchise a black eye, but it still drew in a global tally of nearly $400 million. The problem with that one was that its budget ballooned out of control, getting to nearly $300 million, and making it quite a struggle for the film to turn a profit. Mandalorian has a more modest budget (for a Summer Blockbuster) or $165 million, and in two weeks it has amassed a global tally of $246 million. So while it will likely not count as a runaway success and lead to multiple Mandalorian and Grogu films over the next few years, it still has a chance of turning a profit or at least breaking even in its theatrical run. Then once the film heads to home video and streaming, it should all be gravy for Disney. Plus, this could lead to the Mouse House greenlighting a fourth season of the TV series the film is based on which is already in pre-production.
Should You See It in Theaters? It you are a fan of the series or Star Wars in general, it is probably worth the price of the ticket to go see this one. Critics have not been thrilled with the film, but they don’t hate it either, and the audience seems to have responded well. Seeing these characters on the big screen could be fun, and I may get it on my Summer watch card, but I am already behind and I am more interested in the indies like Backrooms and Hokum. I expect this one will be in the theaters through most of the Summer, though, so I may catch it a little later in the season.
