All of the Sci Fi and Fantasy Movies and TV Shows Coming to Streaming in August 2026

Streaming Sci Fi: Monthly post tracking the sci fi, fantasy, and horror movies coming to the streaming services in the current month.  Note that streaming availability can change with little to no notice.

August delivers the usual collection of sci fi and fantasy movies and TV shows coming to the streaming services, though it is somewhat light on originals. Among the encore runs, there are some interesting selections such as the Tom Cruise film Oblivion, which delivered a decent ’70s-style sci fi entry and premieres on Amazon’s Prime Video at the beginning of the month. Another movie of interest is the alternate history zombie film Overlord which flew under the radar with its release in 2018. And 1993’s action romp The Last Action Hero, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was a ton of fun but did not get much love when it was originally released. Among encore runs for television shows, Syfy’s cancelled Revival arrives on Netflix at the beginning of the month, and perhaps fans can capitalize on that to try and convince that streamer to continue it to a second season. Highlights for the Month:

Oblivion (2013): set in the year 2077, decades after a devastating war with an alien force left Earth largely uninhabitable. Drone technician Jack Harper believes he is performing the final mission before humanity permanently relocates to Saturn’s moon Titan. But after rescuing a mysterious woman from a crashed spacecraft, he uncovers shocking secrets about the war, his own identity, and the true fate of Earth. Premieres on Prime Video August 1st.

Overlord (2018): Set during World War II, this film follows a squad of American paratroopers sent behind enemy lines on the eve of the D-Day invasion. After discovering a secret Nazi laboratory beneath a French village, they uncover horrifying experiments that have transformed soldiers into monstrous creations. Premieres on Paramount+ August 1st.

The Last Action Hero (1993): This action-comedy fantasy follows Danny Madigan, a young movie fan who is magically transported into the world of his favorite action hero, Jack Slater. Inside the over-the-top action film, Danny discovers that movie rules don’t always make sense—and when a villain escapes into the real world, he and Slater must join forces to stop fiction from colliding with reality. Premieres on Tubi August 1st.

Revival (2025): On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the “revived” appear and act just like they once were. Premieres on Netflix August 1st.
