All of the Sci Fi and Fantasy Movies and TV Shows Coming to Streaming in May 2026

Streaming Sci Fi: Monthly post tracking the sci fi, fantasy, and horror movies coming to the streaming services in the current month.  Note that streaming availability can change with little to no notice.

May is bringing some good choices to streaming for genre fans, starting off with several of the Star Wars movies getting loaned to Hulu from Disney+ in honor of Star Wars Day. (May the 4th Be With You!) The original trilogy–Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi–will be available there starting May 1st along with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. These may not be there long, though, so if you have Hulu and not Disney+, you will want to watch them sooner rather than later. In more recent releases hitting streaming, the zombie-film We Bury the Dead has its premiere on Hulu May 8th. Of interest among older genre entries is the George Pal (War of the Worlds, The Time Machine) fantasy film The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm which arrives on HBO Max May 1st. It may not quite count as a classic, but it is a fun throwback movie from its era.

May brings quite a number of sci fi and fantasy TV premieres such as Star City (Apple TV), Spider-Noir (Prime Video), and Punisher: One Last Kill (Disney+). Moore’s Battlestar: Galactica returns to streaming with the full series, the movie The Plan, and the prequel series Caprica arriving on Paramount+ May 1st. The series and the and The Plan will also be streaming for free on Paramount’s Pluto TV starting on that day. Also, the HBO horror anthology Tales from the Crypt finally gets its premiere on streaming, as Shudder starts rolling that one out May 1st. The inaugural season will be available then, and additional seasons (seven total) will release each Friday through June. Following are some highlights, and you can see the full list below.

Highlights for the Month:

Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1977): The Star Wars legacy begins as a farmboy from the distant planet of Tatooine joins forces with various allies to save their galaxy from the evil Empire’s planet-destroying battle station, while also rescuing the princess leading the rebellion against them. Premieres on Hulu May 1st.

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1963): George Pal brings three of the classic tale from Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm to the big screen: “The Dancing Princess”, “The Cobbler and the Elves”, and “The Singing Bone”. Premieres on HBO Max May 1st.

Battlestar: Galactica (2003): Following the destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol by the Cylons, a rag-tag fugitive fleet of the last remnants of mankind flees the pursuing Cylons while simultaneously searching for their true home: Earth. Premieres on Paramount+ and Pluto TV May 1st.

Tales from the Crypt (1989): SHUDDER will exclusively debut all seven seasons of the ‘90s cult classic horror anthology series Tales From the Crypt May through June. Season 1 premieres May 1st.
