Hitting streaming today on Disney+ is the director’s cut of the 2008 feature film The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Sci Fi Movie News of Note:

A Treasure Island movie is in the works with Ridley Scott and Hugh Jackman

A big screen adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island is in the works, and it has some high profile names attached. Ridley Scott will be onboard as director and Hugh Jackman is attached to play Long John Silver. Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials) is writing the script, and while no studio is attached to the project at this point, this one is drawing plenty of interest.

Progress has been slow on the long-anticipated Edge of Tomorrow sequel, but a recent update suggests there may be movement on that front. Word is that Charlize Theron has been approached to join the film in an undisclosed role, though nothing has been confirmed on that. Both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have been busy with other projects, but with Cruise now finished with the Mission: Impossible franchise, he may be able to free up time for the sequel.

Project Hail Mary is still in the Top 20 at the Box Office, but its theatrical run is coming to an end and it will be hitting streaming shortly, arriving on MGM+ on June 18th. The film was produced by Amazon MGM Studios, and apparently it is headed to that platform to help promote that second-tier service.

In production news, filming has wrapped on the reboot of The Exorcist directed by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting on Hill House) and starring Scarlett Johansson. That one currently has a release date set for March 12, 2027.

In casing news, Jason Momoa has exited from the lead role of the video game based movie Helldivers for undisclosed reasons. Interestingly enough, it is staying in Hell as he is joing the non-genre entry Hells Angels.
