Sci Fi Movie News of Note

Game of Thrones feature film

The previously announced Game of Thrones theatrical movie now has a title, Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, and it is showing up in the latest Production Weekly listings. Details on the plot are limited, but it will focus on the original Targaryen conqueror Aegon I. Variety provides the following additional information:

The history of Aegon I Targaryen was told in Martin’s Fire and Blood book, which chronicled the rises and falls of the various Targaryen kings. The original Aegon was the first to unite the kingdoms of Westeros under one ruler. He forged the Iron Throne from the melted weapons of his enemies and lorded over the land with his two sister-wives and queens, Visenya and Rhaenys. After his death, his heirs continued to serve as kings for many generations (with many of them also named Aegon).

Beau Willimon (Andor) will be writing the script, but neither a director nor any cast members have been announced at this point. With production kicking off now, this one will likely be looking at a late 2027 or early 2028 premiere.

“I’ll be back!” The words of the Terminator are proving prophetic as Terminator 2: Judgement Day will be back in theaters this year to celebrate the film’s 35th anniversary. A premiere date has not been announced yet, but it could be around July 3rd, which is when it first hit the big screen. That film is generally considered the best entry in the franchise, and it is often ranked highly among all-time great sci fi films.

Spaceballs 2 has received the official title of Spaceballs: The New One. Not much is known about the plot of the film at this point, but several of the original cast will be returning, including Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga. Josh Greenbaum will be directing, and it is set to hit theaters April 23, 2027.

The Japanese horror film Exit 8 had a good start in theaters in limited release, landing at the Number 8 slot with $1.4 million in domestic receipts. You can read more about the sci fi Box Office results at this link.
